Avignon Health and safety

Generally, France is viewed as a "safe" destination and Avignon is by and large a safe place for tourist with crime statistics not causing any serious areas of concern and the general surrounding and atmosphere being conducive to walking around comfortably and safely both during day and night.

Be safe
Avignon is a big and bustling city with lots of tourists coming from various places every day, giving lots of scope to people with dishonest intentions. Warnings of robbers and pickpockets should be heeded. Criminals frequent tourist attractions such as museums, monuments, restaurants, hotels, beaches, trains, train stations, airports, and subways. Purse snatching and pick pocketing are the common crimes and it occurs throughout the south of France, so one should be very alert and careful. The food out here is safe to have and the water is potable too

Taking care of your health
In the summer, the sun can be at its worst so be wary of the sun and make sure you apply a good sunscreen before stepping out. It's easy to underestimate just how hot the sun can get. The body tends to get dehydrated very easily, so make sure you drink plenty of water. Although many people prefer to buy bottled water, tap water in Avignon is perfectly safe which is available still or carbonated and can be found almost in every shops and eateries. The risks of food poisoning or hygiene-related illness are certainly no higher than in any other well developed European city and the risk of contagious disease the same. Rabies is however present, so avoid petting any dogs that you come across randomly in the street.

In case however if you meet an accident or get sick while on holiday, don't worry! You can get free medical treatment if you're an European resident whose country has a reciprocal agreement with France, but for that you will need to make sure you have the relevant documentation, which can be obtained from local government offices in your home country. If you are from a non-European country, then it is advisable that you make sure you have travel insurance with medical cover before you set off on your holiday.

Following a few basic rules can keep the doctors and cops away, making sure you are not the target of criminals or diseases. Some health and safety tips for a happy and safe holiday:

•  Drink plenty of water during the summer season.
•  Apply a good and strong sunscreen lotion before stepping out in the sun.
•  Avoid the unpopulated, unlit areas at night
•  Keep your purses and wallets in front pockets
•  Wear handbags over the opposite shoulder
•  Avoid patting dogs in the street.
•  Don't leave valuables unattended in a car
•  Report the loss or theft of a passport immediately to the local police.
•  Keep the car doors locked at all times while traveling to prevent incidents of "snatch and grab" thefts.
•  Take care of your personal hygiene factors

Avignon of course promises you a safe and healthy stay! But prevention is better than cure, so it's for the best interest of you and your family that you enjoy keeping the safety and health tips in mind and take care to keep well.
